Bell Work: Page 119- Review Memory Book

Class Work

  1. Read chapters 16 and 17 of The Giver.
  2. Complete the following reading journal activities:
    • Chapter 16 (page 120 in your interactive notebook): Identify the subject of the memory Jonas receives in this chapter. Give at least 4 pieces of textual evidence to support your conclusion. (Use the RACE strategy.)
    • Chapter 17 ( page 121 in your interactive notebook ): Explain why Jonas is so upset by the game the other children are playing. Why do they not understand Jonas’ emotions? How does their lack of understanding make him feel? (Use the RACE strategy to format your response.)

Homework: Optional Summative –Random Acts of Kindness project (due March 3rd)

    1. 3rd period ONLY!!!!  Required Summative –Memory Book (due March 8th
      • Rubric
      • If completed electronically, your project must be submitted via Office 365.
      • If completed tangibly, your book must be bound (a staple stack of papers is not considered to be bound).
    2. 1, 2, 4, 5,  and 7 Discuss culminating book-of-memories-project-1 due March 8, 2017.
  1. Optional Summative – Breaking Barriers Essay Contest (due March 13th) – Please submit your essay through Scholastic’s website for the contest, as well as via Office 365 for credit in our class.
